是所SHISUO受PSA上海当代艺术博物馆之邀,联合海派剪纸非遗传承人石勤玲,以“月亮、兔子与剪纸”为题,共同呈现中秋节城市公共艺术装置——「月满」。

Invited by the Power Station of Art (PSA), SHISUO Design Office has unveiled “The Full Moon” an urban public art installation celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival in Shanghai. The installation was realized in collaboration with Shi Qinling, a Shanghai-style paper-cutting inheritor, and is themed around the moon, rabbits, and the art of paper-cutting.

在不同的文化语境中,兔子是罕有的能够获得全人类一致喜爱的动物形象。在中国有关中秋的古典传说中,兔子的形象始终与月亮相伴——月亮象征着生命的盈亏,而兔子则隐喻着万物的生长与繁盛。

Across various cultures, the rabbit holds a unique place in the human imagination as one of the few animal figures beloved by all. In China’s classical Mid-Autumn folklore, the rabbit is a constant companion to the moon—the moon symbolizes the cyclical waxing and waning of existence, while the rabbit metaphorically represents the vitality, growth, and flourishing of all beings.

海派剪纸历史悠久,独具年味,非遗传承人石勤玲将传统文化中的兔子形象以剪纸的形式展现——奔跑、跳跃、回望、站立、嬉戏、追逐,不同状态下的兔子以敦煌壁画藻井中经典的“三兔图”图案组合在一起;是所SHIUO则创造性地选取了冰裂纹亚克力板对这些兔子剪纸进行了重新演绎,唤起人们对“月亮之上的兔子”的无尽想象。
With a long history, Shanghai-style paper-cutting brings a unique festive charm to the Chinese New Year. Shi Qinling, the inheritor of this intangible cultural heritage, presents traditional rabbit character through this traditional art—capturing them in motion, leaping, looking back, standing, playing, chasing and so on. These diverse poses are ingeniously arranged in the “Three Hares with Conjoined Ears” motif, a classic pattern originally found in the caisson ceilings of the Dunhuang Murals. SHISUO then offers a creative reinterpretation, using crackle-textured acrylic panels as construction materials to re-imagine these paper hares, evoking endless imaginations of the “Jade Hare on the Moon.”

当观者环绕这枚被切削一角的“月亮”,或沿着岸边缓步徐行,在不同的视线角度中,装置将如月相剧场般呈现出“阴晴圆缺”的状态,一如千年前诗人笔下那轮江畔初见的明月所蕴含的哲思,驻足者总能在某个转角与满月相遇。那一刻的圆满,恰似人类对永恒之美的集体乡愁。
As viewers circle around this “moon” with a sliced-away corner, or stroll leisurely along the shoreline, the installation shifts like a lunar phase theater, revealing “waxing and waning’” from different angles—much like the philosophical moon by the riverside described by poets millennia ago. People may always encounter a full moon at some turn, its momentary perfection akin to humanity’s collective nostalgia for eternal beauty.

“月亮”内部是一个可以进入体验的穹壳空间,姿态各异的兔子剪影相互交叠、环绕,顶部则被留空。月亮的轨迹经过精确计算,在晴朗的中秋夜晚,当人们的视线穿过洞口,则可以与空中的满月相遇。
Inside the “moon” is designed as a walkable domed space, where silhouettes of rabbits in various poses overlap and encircle one another, while the top remains open. The moon’s trajectory is precisely calculated—on a clear Mid-Autumn Festival night, when one gazes through the opening, they can find the full moon hanging in the sky through the cut.

8-10月是上海台风高发月份,而装置位于黄埔江边的甲板上,结构安全性是首要考量。经纬球结构技术难度低,更便于快速安装与拆除。整体结构采用管径30mm的方钢管,并对经线方向及开口处圆拱的杆件进行加粗,以满足球壳被切分后的悬挑需求。由亚克力板制成的剪纸兔子具有防水性能,并为球壳表面带来镂空,以便让江风穿过,消解了风荷载对于装置的影响。
August to October marks the peak typhoon season in Shanghai, and since the installation is situated on a deck along the Huangpu River, structural safety becomes the foremost priority. The longitude-latitude spherical structure offers relatively low technical complexity, facilitating rapid installation and dismantling. The overall framework is constructed from square steel tubes with a diameter of 30mm, with additional reinforcement applied to the longitudinal members and the arched components around the opening to meet the cantilever requirements resulting from the segmented sphere. The paper-cut-inspired rabbit silhouettes, made from waterproof acrylic panels, create an openwork pattern across the spherical surface. This design allows river winds to pass through, effectively dissipating wind loads and minimizing their impact on the installation at the same time.

「月满」装置于国庆期间在西岸梦中心船坞码头限时展出7天,其所覆盖的区域,地板被临时拆除,并对其编号后保留。钢架底座与地板之下的混凝土相连,为结构保证了良好的抗风性能,从而无惧可能发生的台风隐患。展期结束之后,地板依据编号进行复原,使场地恢复如初,不留下任何痕迹。
“The Full Moon” installation was exhibited for a limited time of seven days at the West Bund Shipyard Pier,Shanghai during the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday. The floor covering the area was temporarily removed, numbered, and preserved. The steel frame base was connected to the concrete beneath the floor, providing the structure with excellent wind resistance to ensure safety against potential typhoon risks. After the exhibition period ended, the floor was restored according to the numbered sections, returning the site to its original state without leaving any trace.

天上兔子追逐成月亮,地上人儿千里共婵娟。是所SHISUO借由“月满”诉说中国文化中对于圆满与团聚的期盼。
In the sky, rabbits chase one another to form the moon; on earth, For miles around we share the moon’s pure glow. Through “The Full Moon” SHISUO conveys the Chinese cultural longing for fulfillment and reunion.
