Architecture with respect

The Motley is a high quality hotel development in the heart of Richmond. Over 8 levels (plus basement) the hotel comprises 80 rooms with amenities. The design engages with the history, character and streetscape of the site, while also responding to the immediate and broader context with regard to architectural expression.

The entrance and lobby respond to the existing symmetry of heritage facades at 203 and 205 Bridge Road. Exposed mid-grey steel mullions are evenly spaced with negative detail to emphasize the heritage character on both sides. The development contributes positively to the emerging character of Richmond, in particularly the Bridge Road corridor. This new building takes a contemporary and sensitive approach to developing a unique pocket of the City of Yarra.
