Completed in Spring 2025, Birdair designed and constructed the striking white translucent tensile membrane entrance structure for the Washington State Fairgrounds in Puyallup, WA. Spanning approximately 4,700 square feet, the canopy features Birdair’s custom PTFE-coated fiberglass membrane in a single-layer roofing system. This elegant structure, supported by a space frame-inspired design, serves as a functional and visually appealing entryway, offering protection from sun and inclement weather for guests arriving at the WA State Fairgrounds.
Birdair’s comprehensive scope included the design, engineering, fabrication, supply, and installation of the PTFE fiberglass membrane. The woven fiberglass base provides structural strength, while the PTFE coating enhances durability and performance. Unlike conventional glazing, PTFE fiberglass offers a superior shading coefficient, making it an ideal choice for both form and function in tensile architecture.
