Hefei Vanke Zhouwan Waterfront Park

With a landscaping area of 6.7 ha, the project is located in Hefei and aims to create an open waterfront public space for the three surrounding plots of low density residence and commercial office developed by Vanke. The Nanfeihe River watershed is of good conditions in ecology and current environment. The challenge we faced is mainly based on the analysis of population structure and characteristic, and to come up with correct position of usage function as well as to create a modern quality park with low cost and simple style through maximizing the combination of current condition and the design upon reorganizing the disorder of plants. It is both a challenge and an opportunity.

The design goal is to create a varying park space integrated with unique pedestrian experience. Through changing current terrain, we reach the goal, and numerous existing big trees have been kept. With abundant on-site work, the design is based on our feeling, recording and evaluating: The relation of visual angle as well as the best view spot and the area to be enclosed are determined on site. The design frame in future is created in combination with the existing big trees. All of them are proved to be the key foundation to ensure the result of a great space for the project.

The terrain and vegetation are used to shape the unique pedestrian space. Moreover, through shortening the time of rain on the vegetation, the quality of river water is improved. After a careful consideration on the light and shadow from the abundant surrounding high-rise buildings, the main space and palette of plants are created to appropriately form a park of vitality and with different sceneries in four seasons!
