Though educated in a modernist tradition I noticed that for my own house I had a much more romantic taste. Not that I am against a well-designed modern house; it is just that for myself I wanted a house a little bit more sturdy, informal and forgiving.

A client of us once said ‘I want a house where my kid can throw his bike against the façade and walk inside with his dirty little booties’

The house was an original barn and was covered with corrugated steel. Once we stepped inside we noticed the old wooden structure and we were immediately sold.

During the transformation we were always looking for the obvious solutions, avoiding 'designing'as much as possible.

The result is a very pleasant house that gives everybody a holiday feel.
