A lively coffee shop is located adjacent to the Swanston Street entry at street level, which has created some much needed retail ’life’ to this neglected part of the campus.

A central ‘feature’ staircase leads up through the galleries via the major hanging artwork in the form of a stained glass window.

The six exhibition spaces are grouped around the atrium, with a top floor that offers

glimpses of the city.

Pared with the Sydney Myer Asia Centre just up the street, these two buildings have become the face of Melbourne University at its busiest entry from Swanston Street.

The buildings are clear examples of the university’s more outwardly focussed attitude. They link the campus with the nearby retail hub of Lygon Street.
