Southwest Breast and Aesthetics
Location - Phoenix, Arizona, USA
SWBA is an atypical Doctor’s office for women, whose business is primarily focused on breast reconstruction for breast cancer patients. Plastic Surgeons are typically the 2nd Doctor visited after diagnosis, usually with loved ones for support and are a patient for 18-24 months. This 3240SF TI space was selected for its ground level corner location, its tall volume with light, views, frontage on major E-W arterial (Camelback Road) and opposite an AC Hotel, convenient for patients and families from out-of-state. The plan is a secure counter-clockwise circulatory route that prioritizes access to abundant light along the east and north shaded curtain walls. The NE corner room is reserved for the first Doctor / Staff consultation with a woman and her support group. An acoustic curtain of color separates first visit circulation from follow-up visits and in the center of the plan are support spaces fronted by an entry wall of light. The 13’ high section utilizes the given volume to the maximum extent, directing the ample peripheral light into Offices / Consultation / Exam Rooms and further inward thru 5’ high glass clerestories onto the circulation route with Med Assist work areas. A strong 8’ high datum of ¼” steel plate rings the peripheral private spaces incorporating acoustic doors and canted glass clerestories to reduce acoustic reverberation. All materiality is chosen to extend and amplify the light enveloping each patient’s journey within an atmosphere of hope.
