This garden is situated in the residual space between an existing elderly care building and two new housing projects on top of a new, underground parking lot. The program is directed by these facts which imply that the soil depth is limited above the actual parking space; that the buildings’ configuration triggers heavy fall winds; the maintenance expectations are moderate and the elderly will mainly be able to enjoy the garden from the elevated view of their rooms. Inside Outside proposed a change in both the entrance and parking configuration for a better soil situation, a more open view into the garden and a smoother movement into the parking and onto the garden ‘platform’. We suggested to shift the entrance lobby position and to enlarge its surface and transparency towards the garden and the pond. For the garden itself we envisioned a graphical, black asphalt surface with triangular incisions with trees and grasses growing out of it. Here and there, wooden benches in the same triangular shape pop-up. Throughout the garden, an bright orange, meandering path connects street to entrance to waterfront. There the path becomes a quay that cuts through the reed and allows a completely new perspective across the water.
