The National theater of Egypt was burned on 27 September 2008

Project Summary

Cube was selected as the main consultant of the renovation and development in 2009.

The main goal is to attain the original theatre architecture by restoration, by regaining its astounding effects among its audience not only in the middle east but also for the whole African area. the main objective is to develop the national theatre and the urban context in an appealing attractive design to maintain its audience likeability and to regain its popularity. Back to history, reflection, technology & minimalism regaining the original theater architecture by restoration demolish all additive buildings and slums around the original building.

For the national theater and the urban context development

developing exits and entries by developing the whole area of theaters complex (national , puppet and taleaa theaters) while reflecting the old building by the new ones by using mirror glass structure cladding for all buildings around the national theater old building creating new landscape architecture (historical for old building & modern for new buildings) The new zoning plan back to original entry by using puppet theater ground floor to work as the entry plaza for the national theater, using glass structure for bordering the plaza and intersecting the old building to work as a mirror reflecting the old and regaining the original architecture using highest techniques for restoration, removing all slums buildings around old building including the mosque attached to the east-west façade and the restoration of the old building “national theater” in addition to creating new mirror building connecting the 3 theaters in one main in the northern site façade and creating new landscape architecture for the national theaters complex.
