Our proposal for the Chungman Art Museum is for space-shaping architecture that weaves together the Chungnam Library, Art Museum and future Arts Center into a coherent, green complex with the Museum acting as an iconic-space-centerpiece. The museum’s H-shaped plan finds its geometrical origins in the fan-shaped masterplan of Naepo New City. It forms a plaza and three distinctive gardens that relate to the site and consolidate the entire cultural masterplan. The portal: Chagyeong links the top level of the museum and frames Yongbong-San with a public viewing platform.

The Museum’s horizontal structure allows uninterrupted circulation through diverse, human-sized spaces. It allows all museum programs to be linked – for an intimate, art experience that combines educational activities, experimental, traditional, immersive, and participatory art – while exhibitions and workshops seamlessly spill out into the Sculpture Gardens. Digital simulcast and video art projected on the exterior walls further energize the Museum Plaza.
