Architects Mosher Drew designed the 4,000 square foot Close Quarters Battle Range (CQBR) at Range 130, Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton. The two-story facility simulates scenarios where combat occurs inside buildings, urban environments, or other confined spaces such as tactical movement for training in room clearing, hostage rescue, breaching doors, using cover and concealment, and engaging targets at close range with firearms and other weapons.

This building provides a safe and controlled environment for military personnel. The facility required multiple rooms, hallways, doors, stairs, windows, and various obstacles to replicate real-world environments for training scenarios. The walls contained bullet traps with vertical rolling rubber membranes to immediately capture bullets and prevent ricochets. There was also extensive mechanical systems designed to scrub and exhaust lead vapors resulting from firearm use.
