Project Description

Architecture with respect

This project included a major refurbishment to the existing ground and third floor levels of the Thomas Cherry Building. The aim was to cater for two and three dimensional art works and meet the theoretical and practical needs of the GCCMC.

The new accommodation includes flexible undergraduate teaching laboratories, postgraduate research laboratories, specialist storage spaces, exhibition entry, and staff administration offices and meeting rooms.

The design integrates the specific spatial requirements for teaching and conservation processes, with complex specialised services equipment. A new ground-floor building facade provides a playful and engaging intervention to Swanston Street across from the Ian Potter Museum of Art.
