Downtown Westminster Woonerf

The woonerf, or shared street, has a 30’ wide Right of Way and focuses on the principles of a community shared space with a priority of pedestrians over cars, and the creation of a dynamic and inviting space that balances the resident’s private needs with the immediate community benefits. Social gathering and play spaces were created, with an eye to make the needs of functioning traffic, utilities, drainage, and security all become part of the background street that serves the greater needs of adjacent residents as well as critical pedestrian connectivity with the downtown. Creative site elements and lighting help define the woonerf as a special place.
