Hospitality + Retail
Stillorgan Shopping Centre was the first retail centre built in Ireland in 1967. The refurbishment was completed over two phases to comply with retail standards while allowing all tenants to continue trade during the process. The first phase onto Lower Kilmacud Road provides a first glimpse of a an overall vision and architectural expression.
The proposed rejuvenation and development of Stillorgan Village Centre has been carefully designed to respect the surrounding existing established community, while at the same time providing a building of appropriate urban scale and massing.
A fibre cement cladding system wraps the overall scheme in a colourful surface. The composition forms the basis of our design expression, utilizing natural earthy autumnal colours. Vertical “fin” lines set against these horizontal coloured planes establish a visual interest by the creation of light and shadow. The first floor glass façade maximises the potential for daylight while also revealing the restaurant activity connecting it with the public in the street. The glass is projected over the base cladding and partly screened by a series of vertical fins which are further animated by varying the width of the fins a wave pattern is generated. This creates a dynamic kinetic quality which can be observed by approaching patrons.
