: Landscape masterplan and planting design for a holiday 'glamping' garden embedded in nature
Date
: 2021 - 2022
Size
: 30,000 m2
Overlooking the hills, beautiful beaches and crystal blue water of Corfu, Greece, Paleokastritsa is gifted with great diversity of landscapes including lush vegetation, cliffs, caves and bays. The site with the existing topography and vegetation is a huge asset for a new “glamping”, where people can spend their holidays within the stunning nature. The varied topography offers potential for an integrated placement of the accommodations and for special moments - elevated or recessed, reclusive or hospitable, cooling or cozily warm.
Partnering with Nomadic Resorts, Inside Outside uses minimal but efficient landscape intervention to create an eco-friendly accommodation and sustainable tourism. Existing conditions are being enhanced to their best advantage and to develop the site with a minimal environmental footprint. All old trees will be maintained, and new planting will be selected from native, drought resistant species. All pavement and retention walls will be constructed from local stones and in a vernacular manner.
On the southwest, an olive grove growing for hundreds of years has developed in majestic height and width, thus forming cool and shaded climate for the tents. On the northeast, the lofty cypress forest will incorporate new tree houses. Existing houses are subtly being transformed into more traditional habitations. The project takes advantage of the remarkable sceneries and rustic environment to expose visitors to the unique nature of Corfu.
