Three new buildings have been designed around that older building. They are NewActon East completed in 2008, NewActon South completed in 2011 and NewActon Nishi completed in 2013.
A key aspiration of our design has been to optimise the balance of influences between the heritage and new buildings. We carefully considered the current and future nature of urbanity in Canberra, relationships between different uses of the buildings and the balance between public and private space on the site; creating an environment of richness and delight, with an interplay of arts, architecture, living, working and recreation.

Intrinsic to this aspiration has been the structure of the landscape, which emphasises permeability and continuity through the site and which strengthens connections created by the masterplanning and building design.
To date, NewActon has won 31 awards including the prestigious Walter Burley Griffin Award from the Australian Institute of Architects for best Urban Design in Australia.
