The mixed-use development will comprise two distinct areas – the hotel and a new residential building across the 8,500sqm site near Sydney’s coastal walkway.
Upgrades to the heritage listed hotel will also include the existing Arden Bar, Arden Brasserie and beer garden, as well as add 10 new hotel rooms for 29 in total.
The five-storey residential component will accommodate 60 apartments sitting atop a small-scale supermarket with 10 new retail tenancies forming an internal site link and ‘eat-street’ at ground level, updating and enlivening the precinct.
The proposed design with landscape architects OCULUS responds to the varied street character and scale, with particular attention given to the heritage elements along Coogee Bay Road with input from Weir Phillips Heritage and Planning. Drawing inspiration from its waterfront location, the facade material’s play on light and shade, echoes the warmth and depth of nature’s palette offered by the sandy beach foreground.
