Union West | RUS Bus Transit Facility
Raleigh, NC
A vibrant new vertically integrated mixed-use development forms a destination and intermodal hub for the City of Raleigh.
Union West and the RUS Bus Transit Facility form a key anchor on Raleigh’s west side, building on the renaissance already taking place in its historic Warehouse District and bringing more residents back into the urban core. Working with developers Hoffman & Associates and GoTriangle, the local transit authority, Perkins Eastman is leading the design of a residential high-rise atop a new bus facility with an inviting public realm that integrates the two as a place for residents, commuters, and visitors alike.
The multi-modal RUS Bus Transit Facility, which opened in July 2025, features a six-bus bay with two layover spaces, bike parking, and accompanying support spaces. This facility capitalizes on its adjacency to Raleigh Union Station’s rail service and supports a future stop on the city’s Bus Rapid Transit line. The facility is accessible via public plazas connected through and around future retail and dining venues, whose exteriors are marked with the existing historic brick fabric of the area’s original warehouses at the corners on West Street.
The Union West tower steps up to mark the skyline as a signature high-rise in the Warehouse District, whose rooftop lounge and deck will offer commanding views toward Raleigh’s downtown. The development includes 385 residential units, indoor and outdoor amenities atop a three-level parking structure, and more than 26,000 sf of retail and dining space.
When complete, the new transit-oriented development will become a one-of-a-kind destination where residents have a downtown address along with access to bus and rail, commuters are treated to a welcoming environment of dining and retail, and visitors can easily come and go, taking advantage of the district’s multiple transit options.
