Berryessa Unified School District Elementary School Modernizations
San Jose, CA
Each flexible learning space classroom is dramatically different than a typical classroom to inspire collaboration and creativity, self-direction, discovery, spontaneity, and collaboration.
The modernization of multiple district sites over a three-year period includes upgraded finishes campus-wide, the conversion of existing space into a flexible instruction space, and targeted site upgrades. Perkins Eastman partnered with teachers to design vibrant active learning laboratories, facilitating out-of-the-box lesson planning and project-based learning.
Designs range from a virtual “Beehive” to a “Grove.” The commitment to provide an experimental space for students to come together, be challenged in subjects of their own choosing, integrate cross disciplinary studies, and then share their research with other students reflects the greater commitment of the Berryessa School District to develop a platform for future learning. This investment carries across each campus by modernizing the fabric of each space to renew the energy and excitement of student life.
