EXPLORING JUVET LANDSCAPE HOTEL WITH SONOS

A couple of weeks ago, the lovely people at Sonos invited me on a press trip to Norway - it’s a hard job, etc..

We were there to learn more about

Sonos’ new Move speaker

, but before I get into all that, can we just take a minute to talk about the hotel.

It’s called

Juvet Landscape hotel

- and it’s in a beautifully remote area in the Norwegian countryside. It’s not the easiest place in the world to get to, of course - we flew into Oslo, took another flight to Ålesund and then drove for two hours - but so worth it when you get there.

We stayed in the Landscape rooms - a series of little pod buildings with huge glass windows. They were set out so nobody overlooked anyone else, so no need to draw the curtains - as close as you can get to sleeping in nature without being outside in the snow.

As well as exploring the local area, we spent some time in the hotel’s communal spaces doing some workshops based around sound. Meditating while overlooking snowy mountains was a new experience for me, but definitely something that will stay with me for a long time!

We also did a sound bath - something I didn’t really know anything about further than having seen it on the Kardashians. It was about immersing ourselves in sound, with the leader of the session singing, chanting and using different instruments as a form of meditation. When it was over, you feel this swell of emotion, which I wasn’t expecting, but I’m definitely going to find somewhere to do this again.

Okay, let’s move onto the Move. I’m no stranger to a Sonos speaker, but the big difference with the Move is that it’s your usual Sonos quality but in a portable speaker. It comes with a charger dock which it can sit in while you’re at home, and then you can just pick it up by its handle and take it with you wherever you’re off to. It has a 10 hour battery life off one charge and, while it works on Wifi indoors, can be used with Bluetooth while you’re out and about.

You might feel slightly anxious taking a nice bit of kit like this with you out into nature, but it’s surprisingly hardy. It can deal with being dropped as it has a shock-resistant casing, plus is IP56 rated, which means its insides are protected from ingress of water and other materials. That means it’s rain-proof, plus can stand up to extreme heat and cold, dust, UV rays, salt spray and yes, snow.

It’s pretty wild how well it works outdoors compared to other portable speakers I’ve had - such good sound quality and able to go so loud!
