The design for the demonstration area adopts the traditional Chinese garden-making approach of creating everchanging scenes along the pathway and symbolizing the grandness of nature through small elements. The modernist design strategies are also incorporated to deconstruct the natural landscape. Guided by a classic allusion in an ancient Chinese poem "Zhuangzi (an influential Chinese philosopher in the 4th Century B.C.) dreamed of being a butterfly", the design creates a vivid visiting route with sequential scenarios of "falling into the dream, meandering in the garden, being indulged into the butterfly world, and appreciating the layered rivulet and the bamboo shadow". Different nodes representing the ten scenarios in the dreaming storyline are set to create a small but exquisite demonstration area. The rich oriental ambience here is embedded in the sinuous pathway.
