Pharos is named after the lighthouse in Alexandria, Egypt and is currently only accessible via a tunnel from the main gallery. It is built around several works by American artist James Turrell: Event Horizon, Weight of Darkness, Beside Myself, and Unseen Seen.
The Turrell works all deal with light and consciousness. They are not designed to be looked at, but rather to be walked in, lain in, pondered, and experienced.

Cantilevering out over the River Derwent, the 14-metre inverted parabola houses a restaurant, Faro, which also houses the spherical Unseen Seen.
