Michigan State University Breslin Student Events Center

The Jack Breslin Student Events Center opened in 1989 and is the host of numerous events each year in addition to being the home of the Michigan State Spartan men’s and women’s basketball teams. An assessment of the facility determined there was a need for numerous upgrades and repairs. ROSSETTI partnered with Michigan State to improve building operations, enhance the guest experience and expand upon the existing resources to recruit the highest-level student-athletes.

The transformative design begins with the Gilbert Pavilion as a new focal point on the southeast corner of the arena to better integrate with the athletics campus community. The strengthened approach includes a new plaza to better accommodate significant game-day pedestrian flow and embraces the iconic bronze statue of Spartan basketball alumnus, Magic Johnson. The glass façade immediately immerses guests in the Tom Izzo Hall of History exhibition space. LED elements are integrated with legacy artifacts, such as uniform displays, trophies and recognition of Spartan athletes now in the NBA and WNBA. Upgrades continue into the arena concourse with improved concessions, restrooms and branded wayfinding celebrating Michigan State basketball.

The renovation also upgraded spaces for Spartan student-athletes present, past and future. A state-of-art strength and conditioning room was funded as a gift from proud Spartan and current NBA superstar Draymond Green. A new study hall and player lounge features a nutrition and juice bar and, like professional training centers, includes a barber chair and service. The new alumni locker room encourages former players to maintain close ties to their alma mater. The addition of a recruitment center acts as a private space where recruits and their families can meet with the team, enjoy a meal and watch a game in comfort and privacy. After opening over 30 years ago, the Breslin Student Events Center is now a dynamic modern facility for the Spartan men’s and women’s’ basketball programs.
