Dans un grand ensemble du XXe arrondissement de Paris, un appartement à cheval sur deux barres. Au plan d’origine, qui privilégiait un séjour en angle, est préféré un séjour traversant, en sacrifiant une chambre. Là où prévalait une logique d’assignation à un mode de vie minimal, se déploie à présent une logique de perversion des échelles, par contamination. L’intérieur de l’entrée est traité en bois –contreplaqué vernis–, tout comme les cases de la bibliothèque. La bibliothèque a une intériorité, l’entrée aussi, soulignée par ce procédé. Pris entre ces deux éléments, le séjour se polarise comme un extérieur, ou comme un intérieur retourné, au sein de l’appartement. Et ce d’autant plus que les registres de façade du grand ensemble viennent s’immiscer à l’intérieur, par le rappel des bandes blanches horizontales et verticales. |

A flat located between two blocks of a large 1960’s housing complex in the 20th district of Paris. While there was a cornered livingroom in the original plan, the new layout sacrifices one of the three existing bedrooms, in order to open the space up. Thereby, getting a larger livingroom with double exposure. Where the directive logic of the minimum standard of living (standard kitchen, standard living, standard bedrooms, standard bathroom, a toilet, an entrance, and finally, corridors that sticks all of that together in hierarchy) used to be, there is now a new system of free additive design, ancillary rooms are organized around the main room – eliminating all corridors – so that the notions of scale and inside/outside are perverted. For instance, both the entrance and the library are designed as true rooms, treated in a similar manner, they are given an interiority through the use of wood paneling. Situated in-between these two intimate wooden boxes, the main living room and its white blanket appears to be the outdoor space of the flat. What’s more, the architectural layout of the building’s facade is converted into the layout for the integrated book shelves.
