Cradles to Crayons (C2C)

is a nonprofit organization providing essential items to low income children with locations in Chicago, Boston, and Philadelphia. C2C sought to expand long-term operations in a new location, resulting in improved operations and flexibility. As a result, C2C and Lumen Workplace (owner’s representative) selected Eckenhoff Saunders to develop a robust, new working space.

The new space improves local community engagement with more space to hold philanthropic-related events and warehouse space for student supplies. The project required an expedited design process and a transitional move over a short time. Through open communication and collaboration, the team delivered a successful project within tight project restraints while creating a new home for an organization enhancing people’s lives throughout Chicago.

The new home includes:

A state-of-the-art loading dock

Volunteer welcome center

23,100 sf holding space along with accessible entrances

More accessible parking

Improved mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
