Republic has been conceived to strengthen the relationship of the City of Canberra with Lake Ginnindera. In its built form the composition of buildings is redolent of the unique topography of its locale: the hills and valleys, the sky and water.

The ground plane of Republic is the heart of the precinct. Activated by retail and focused on a public plaza flanked by a hotel, grocer and market, the development is further enriched by community facilities.

Conceived as an urban village, above the ground plane the buildings are a grouping of lower and taller buildings. Set back in certain areas, while coming forward in others, the buildings create an appropriate scale to streets and laneways and are responsive to the public domain they bound.

The lower buildings’ materiality of texture and grain, light and shade, solid and void offer human scale and structural delight to those in and around the precinct. In contrast, the two taller buildings soar vertically, their curved forms sculpted by light and expressive of the hills and valleys of the Brindabella Ranges.

Constructed in stages, the initial stage incorporates public areas, significant connectivity and much of the retail activity which support and enliven the precinct.
