马尔彭萨医院(Grande Ospedale della Malpensa)国际设计竞赛由 Zaha Hadid Architects(ZHA)联合 RINA(项目牵头方)、Studio Plicchi、WSP、STI Engineering 及 BC Building Consulting 共同中标。全新的医疗园区将整合原有的加拉拉泰医院与布斯托·阿尔西齐奥医院,建设成为一体化的医疗设施,为米兰与瓦雷泽之间地区近一百万居民提供符合21世纪标准的医疗服务。

The international competition to design Malpensa Hospital (Grande Ospedale della Malpensa) has been awarded to Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) in partnership with RINA (team leader), Studio Plicchi, WSP, STI Engineering and BC Building Consulting. The new medical campus will unite the old Gallarate and Busto Arsizio hospitals into a single facility providing 21st-century healthcare to serve almost one million residents living in the region between Milan and Varese.

Commissioned by the Lombardy Regional Health Authority, the design of Malpensa Hospital will meet the evolving requirements of the Olona Valley, ensuring flexibility to accommodate new technologies without comprising operational effectiveness and efficiency. The new hospital’s design addresses three fundamental priorities: meeting the region’s growing demand for healthcare, integrating advanced medical technology with human-centric design, and ensuring the community has access to medical services of the highest quality.

The project represents the holistic integration of healthcare innovation, local heritage preservation and ecological regeneration, creating an inclusive and sustainable campus to serve its community today while adapting to the needs of tomorrow. Designed to respond to evolving health challenges and climate conditions, the hospital’s modular construction enables future expansion and rapid reconfiguration in emergencies. This approach meets the growing healthcare needs of the region while combining advanced medical technologies with a design focused on individual comfort.

医院整体为一座紧凑型建筑结构,由五层地上空间与一层地下空间组成,总建筑面积约9万平方米,并依据医疗强度进行功能组织,涵盖急诊、手术及重症护理等核心功能,这些功能集中于一座整合放射、介入及诊断空间的多功能医疗运营模块中。医院还将纳入完善的门诊与住院设施、妇幼医疗病区,以及包含治疗室的诊断与治疗区域;设计同时容纳一、二级门诊、更多妇幼医疗专科门诊,以及康复、实验室与后勤等专业功能空间,所有设施均被设计为可根据不断变化的需求进行灵活重构。
A compact structure comprising five above-ground levels and one basement, the hospital will encompass approximately 90,000 sq. m organised by intensity of care that includes emergency services, surgery and critical-care within a multifunctional operating block with radiology, interventional and diagnostic rooms. The hospital will incorporate extensive outpatient and inpatient facilities, maternal and infant care wards, in addition to diagnostic and therapy zones with treatment rooms. The design also accommodates first and second level clinics, further clinics for maternal-infant healthcare, together with specialist areas for rehabilitation, laboratories and logistics. Every facility within the hospital is designed to be easily reconfigured to meet evolving needs.

医院为访客、患者、医护人员及物流系统分别设置专用流线,以最大限度减少交叉干扰并降低污染风险,公众使用的流线与技术人员及医疗服务人员使用的流线实现清晰分离;医疗物资、货品与废弃物通过独立设置的电梯系统运输,并辅以自动化配送系统,以确保最高效的后勤服务。设计通过设置患者与员工共用的休憩与缓冲空间,优先保障私密性与舒适度以缓解焦虑;首层的“主街”作为公共轴线,连接入口广场与景观空间,强化可达性与社区融合,室内空间则通过优化自然采光与声学舒适度,营造有助于健康与福祉的环境。
The hospital’s dedicated circulation pathways for visitors, patients, staff and goods will minimise interference and reduce risk of contamination, with a clear separation between the routes used by the public and those used by technicians and healthcare providers. Separate elevators for medical materials, goods and waste are strategically located to avoid interference with patients and visitors, while an automated delivery system ensures efficient logistics. The design prioritises privacy and comfort by creating respite zones for patients and staff alike. At ground level, a central “Main Street” acts as a public axis, linking the entrance plaza and landscaped areas, reinforcing accessibility and community integration. Indoor spaces are defined to optimise natural light and acoustic comfort, creating an environment that supports health and well-being.

基地拥有丰富的自然遗产资源,周边环绕森林与农田,位于区域生态网络之中,并毗邻提契诺河谷区域公园。项目遵循亲生物理念,在保护既有生态系统、降低水文影响的同时,将建于12至13世纪的历史乡村建筑群 Cascina dei Poveri 融入园区结构,营造新的社区公共聚集场所。医院通过被动式设计策略、模块化铝制幕墙系统、遮阳构件与可再生能源系统,力求超越 CAM 环境性能标准;高性能围护结构与遮阳系统可降低约30%的制冷需求,装机容量超过1MWp的光伏系统将满足约四分之一的用电需求,并预留氢能与智能建筑系统接入条件。通过引入建筑管理系统与数字孪生技术,项目具备实施高效预测性维护与能源优化的能力;同时,景观设计在保留既有林地的基础上引入湿地与生物滞留设施,结合耐旱种植的新公共公园与花园,提升生物多样性并降低水资源消耗。最终,马尔彭萨医院将在自然环境中构建一座创新、气候响应型、以人为核心的医疗园区,实现先进医疗体系与奥洛纳河谷生态守护的统一。
The site is rich in natural heritage, surrounded by forests and agricultural land within the Regional Ecological Network and close to the Parco Regionale della Valle del Ticino. Embracing biophilic principles, the hospital’s landscape design preserves these ecosystems while embedding the historic Cascina dei Poveri—dating to the 12th–13th century—within the campus. Incorporating effective passive design strategies, modular aluminium facades, solar shading and renewable energy systems, the hospital is designed to exceed CAM environmental performance standards. A high-performance building envelope and shading reduce cooling demand by 30%, while a photovoltaic system exceeding 1 MWp will supply roughly a quarter of the hospital’s electricity needs, with hydrogen-ready and smart building systems ensuring long-term adaptability. Advanced building management and digital twin technologies enable predictive maintenance and energy optimisation, while new wetlands, bioswales and drought-resistant public landscapes enhance biodiversity and water management. Embedded within its natural surroundings, Malpensa Hospital will deliver the highest quality of patient care in an innovative, climate-responsive and human-centred medical campus, unifying advanced healthcare with responsible ecological stewardship of the Olona Valley.
