项目概况
PROJECTOVERVIEW
E3图书馆档案馆位于华南理工大学广州国际校区南北主轴线南侧,正对校园仪式性广场和校园主入口,以滨河景观带为界,形成和E5学生活动中心的对望关系,东西侧紧邻公共教学楼和公共实验楼。
The E3 Library and Archives is located on the south side of the north-south main axis of Guangzhou International Campus, South China University of Technology. It faces the ceremonial square and main entrance of the campus. With the riverside landscape belt serving as a boundary, this positioning establishes a visual relationship with the E5 Cultural Activity Center opposite. In addition, its eastern and western sides are closely adjacent to the public teaching building and the public laboratory building, respectively.

设计理念
DESIGN CONCEPT
设计之初对于建筑与空间的设想主要有以下几个出发点:如何打造在新时代教学科研模式创新和信息化时代知识传播获取模式变革的双层语境下的高校图书馆空间模式;如何构建“双碳”目标下具备气候适应性的绿色低碳校园建筑;如何全面整合建筑空间与结构形式,兼顾建构逻辑、经济美观;如何结合BIM正向设计模式,合理完成各专业之间的整合设计。基于以上考量,图书馆档案馆以“知识之冠、书山智谷”为设计理念,立足于岭南地域的现代化叙事,建立气候适应性的绿色建筑与空间原型,构筑人、文化、空间与自然的静谧关联。

From the initial design phase, considerations for the building and its spaces have primarily revolved around the following key questions: How to create a university library spatial model that aligns with both the innovation of teaching and research paradigms in the new era and the transformation of knowledge dissemination and acquisition in the information age? How to develop a Green and low-carbon campus buildings with climate adaptability under the “dual-carbon” goals? How to comprehensively integrate architectural space with structural form while balancing construction logic, economy, and aesthetics? How to effectively coordinate interdisciplinary design through a BIM-driven design approach? Based on the above considerations, the building adopts the design concept of ” Knowledge Crown, Wisdom Valley in the Book Mountain.” Rooted in the modern narrative of the Lingnan region, it established a climate-adaptive prototype for green architecture and space, creating a serene connection among people, culture, space, and nature.

知识之冠 书山智谷
CROWN OF KNOWLEDGE, VALLEY OF WISDOM IN THE BOOK MOUNTAIN
为满足图书馆与档案馆一体两用的功能需求,方案以覆土基座为档案藏储,抬升主体为开放阅览的功能组织策略展开设计。通过自下向上外挑倾斜的整体造型策略,构建气候自适应的基础形体。北向形体考虑光照条件则优化为自下向上内倾状态,增加北向采光量,同时减少对滨水绿岸的压迫感,与河道对岸的E5学生活动中心产生互动对话。形体设计保证了建筑整体空间的热舒适度,满足了阅览光照的需求,是新岭南建筑适候设计美学的具体表现。
To meet the dual functional requirements of integrating a library and an archive, the design adopts a strategic approach by embedding the archival storage within a vegetated earth-sheltered base and elevating the main structure above to accommodate open reading spaces. The overall form is shaped through an upward-cantilevering, sloping strategy that establishes a climate-responsive foundation. On the northern elevation, the form is refined to tilt inward from base to top, maximizing northern light exposure while alleviating visual pressure on the riverside greenbelt, thereby engaging in a dynamic dialogue with the E5 Cultural Activity Center on the opposite bank. This architectural design ensures thermal comfort throughout the interior spaces and meets reading-area lighting needs, reflecting the climate-responsive design aesthetics of New Lingnan architecture.

设计将图书馆功能与“山”、“谷”空间原型结合转译,建立“书山智谷”主体空间模式。图书馆内部以南北贯通的中庭设计,打造校园中轴线视觉通廊,将方正平面一分为二,建立前后景观的对话关系。建筑中部为开放“智谷”空间,集合社交、休闲、展览等公共服务功能;两侧为致密“书山”空间,综合阅读、研究、收藏等信息媒介功能。作为高校教育发展的重要基础设施,我们希望图书馆作为校园共享物质空间核心的同时,更应该是承载校园文化的精神中心。“书山智谷”空间既利于高效满足基本空间需求,又利于创造最大化的空间丰富性与开放性。

The design integrates library functions with the spatial archetypes of “mountain” and “valley,” transforming them into the core spatial concept of “Book Mountain and Wisdom Valley.” Internally, a north-south atrium creates a visual corridor along the campus central axis, dividing the rectangular layout into two halves and establishing a dialogue between the front and rear landscapes. At the heart of the building lies the open “Wisdom Valley,” accommodating social, leisure, exhibition, and other public service functions, while the two sides form the dense “Book Mountain,” accommodating reading, research, archival storage, and other information-related functions. As a critical infrastructure for the university’s educational development, the library is envisioned not only as a central shared physical space on campus but also as a spiritual hub embodying campus culture. The “Book Mountain and Wisdom Valley” concept efficiently meets basic spatial needs while maximizing spatial richness and openness.

虚实对比 一体建构
INTEGRATED CONSTRUCTION THROUGH CONTRAST OF VOID AND SOLID
基于气候自适应形体,立面设计以斜向格栅表皮系统回应空间结构与功能需求。砖红色条状蜂窝铝板与玻璃幕墙嵌套结合组成斜向格栅表皮系统,格栅内部与主体梁板共建一体化自承重体系来应对形体倾斜带来的结构挑战。斜向格栅表皮系统兼具结构与遮阳功能,简约灵动,如同一本打开的书,面向校园空间。
The facade design addresses spatial structure and functional requirements through an inclined grid cladding system. Composed of brick-red strip-shaped aluminum honeycomb panels nested within glass curtain walls, the grid integrates with the main beams and slabs to form a unified self-supporting system, effectively addressing the structural challenges posed by the building’s sloping form. The facade combines structural and sun shading functions, embodying a simple yet dynamic aesthetic akin to an open book facing the campus space.

除南北贯通中庭外,图书馆在东西两侧中部设置了以交通功能为主的边厅漫游场所,与南北贯通中庭共同组成出类“十”字型交叉状的空间体系。“十”字型空间外化转译为立面玻璃“窗口”空间,和周边建筑形成紧密对话,并分别朝向最佳景观,在营造丰富体验的同时,也面向校园展现图书馆内部活动空间图景。
In addition to the north-south atrium, the building incorporates side halls on the eastern and western facades, primarily serving circulation functions, which together with the north-south atrium form a distinctive cross-shaped spatial system. This cross-shaped spatial layout is externally expressed as glazed “window” openings on the facade, establishing a close dialogue with the surrounding architecture. Oriented toward optimal views, these openings not only create a rich experiential quality but also offer glimpses into the library’s internal activity spaces from across the campus.

多元体验 场所关联
ASSOCIATION WITH DIVERSE EXPERIENCE VENUES
出于照明控制、运输通道、安保要求、绿色建筑标准等多维考量,我们将档案馆和其技术用房布置于建筑首层基座部分,与之对应的图书馆库房和其技术用房也布置于此。为更好的向校园生活开放与共享,在此还设置了国际报告厅、多功能厅和展厅等功能,建筑二层和二层以上则为图书馆主体功能。其中,二层为阅览室、自习室、咖啡厅、门厅和其他辅助功能;三层四层为开架阅览区,加以局部电子阅览区、特藏馆等;五层为功能各异的“小盒子”,包含研讨室、会议室、图书馆行政用房区、高科技体验区等丰富且灵活的空间。
To comprehensively address factors such as lighting control, transport access, security requirements, and green building standards, the archives are positioned within the building’s ground-level base section, where the library’s storage rooms and technical facilities are also located. To foster greater openness, the ground floor also houses an international lecture hall, multi-purpose halls, exhibition spaces, and related functions. The primary library functions are situated on the second floor and above. The second floor accommodates reading rooms, study areas, a café, a lobby, and auxiliary facilities. The third and fourth floors are dedicated to open-shelf reading areas, complemented by shared functions such as electronic reading zones and special collections. The fifth floor features ‘small-box’ spaces, primarily serving as seminar rooms, meeting rooms, library administrative offices, and high-tech experience zones.

在这个5.2万平方米的开放、互联空间中,知识的传递与分享以多样形式自然展开。图书馆以“书山智谷”共享中庭为核心,通过“方”与“圆”交通枢纽、不同尺度的边庭以及嵌入式院落空间,构筑出层次丰富的共享体验: 书香氤然,宁静致远,创造了师生日常生活中的漫游或停顿体验。空间如一场持续被发现的旅程,在往复之间深化归属感与场所的复杂意蕴,最终成为一个融合个人记忆与集体记忆的建筑设计。
In this 52,000-square-meter open and interconnected space, the transmission and sharing of knowledge unfold naturally in diverse forms. Centered around the shared atrium of the “Book Mountain and Wisdom Valley,” the library employs square and circular circulation hubs, side halls of varying scales, and embedded courtyard spaces to create a richly shared experience. Immersed in the serene atmosphere of scholarly tranquility, the building fosters moments of wandering or pause in the daily lives of teachers and students. The space unfolds like an ongoing journey of discovery, deepening a sense of belonging and the complex meaning of place through repeated engagement. Ultimately, it becomes an architectural design that intertwines personal memory with collective memory.

绿色建筑:主被动技术协同 探索低碳校园建筑
SYNERGY OF ACTIVE AND PASSIVE STRATEGIES FOR LOW-CARBON CAMPUS ARCHITECTURE
设计积极探索绿色低碳的发展模式,以被动式设计策略为主导,打造了主被动技术协同的示范性低碳校园建筑。通过对建筑设计自身的优化完善,形成基于地域气候的自适应设计特色建筑与空间。项目重点表达:基于自遮阳内聚式体型模型,构建绿色低碳节能的适应性建筑形体;通过可呼吸式性能化围护界面设计,优化室内的风光热环境;采用低能耗的空间形态和组织方式,围绕共享中庭形成呼吸腔,动态调节空间舒适度;响应碳中和目标,建立校园产能示范平台,在建筑屋顶布置光伏发电装置提供有效的能源供给;结合首层种植地面、绿化天井、屋顶花园等设计,降低辐射与热岛强度,并作为生物滞留,设置雨水收集装置可用于景观植物灌溉。

The design actively explores a green and low-carbon development model, prioritizing passive design strategies while integrating active technologies to create a campus architecture demonstration of carbon reduction. Key design expressions include: Based on a self-shading form model, an adaptive architectural shape that prioritizes green, low-carbon, and energy-efficient principles is constructed. Through the design of high-performance building envelope, the indoor environment is optimized for wind, light, and thermal comfort. Adopting low-energy consumption spatial forms and organizational methods, a breathing cavity is formed around the shared atrium to dynamically adjust the spatial comfort. In response to the carbon neutrality goal, and to establish a campus energy production demonstration platform, photovoltaic power generation devices are installed on the rooftops of buildings to provide effective energy supply. Integrating features such as planted ground areas, green courtyards, and roof gardens, the design reduces solar radiation and mitigates the heat island effect. Additionally, rainwater collection systems are implemented to support the irrigation of landscape plants.

As a landmark node within the campus spatial system, the E3 Library and Archives is situated at the structural intersection between the residential and academic zones, serving as a pivotal hub for spatial transition and behavioral guidance. Its design philosophy and spatial construction are closely integrated with the site context and functional requirements, emphasizing a rigorous interplay between space and volume while highlighting the regional expression of material properties and tectonic logic. With the design concept of “Knowledge Crown, Wisdom Valley in the Book Mountain,” the project strives to establish a serene connection among people, culture, space, and nature.
