Aşiyan Waiting Lounge

Aşiyan Waiting Lounge proposed within the Aşiyan Funicular Station Surrounding Landscape Design Project is strategically positioned at a key transportation hub, connecting the Rumeli Hisarı-Aşiyan Funicular with ferry services. This location serves as a critical node in the transportation network, making the design of the Waiting Lounge crucial for enhancing the user experience at this busy intersection.

The design process for the Waiting Lounge was initiated through comprehensive cultural and sociological analyses of similar spaces. This research led to the development of a design guided by three core principles: permeability, structural support, and urban memory.

Permeability was a fundamental consideration in the design, aimed at ensuring that the architectural approach fosters a connection with the surrounding environment rather than obstructing it. This principle was achieved through the use of transparent materials and an open design that maintains visual and physical links to the sea, enhancing the overall experience of users.

Structural support was another key focus. The seating units within the lounge were designed to also function as structural elements supporting the roof. This dual functionality not only contributes to the aesthetic appeal of the space but also reinforces its role as an inviting urban element. By integrating these elements, the design seeks to increase the lounge’s attractiveness and functionality as part of the urban landscape.

Urban memory played a significant role in shaping the design. Traditional stone coffee houses, known for their social and interactive environments, were studied to inform the design approach. The aim was to create a space that encourages social interaction and provides a familiar, secure environment for users. This analysis helped in developing a design that promotes dialogue and fosters a sense of community, reflecting the sociological rituals and social patterns inherent in urban memory.

Given the project’s exposure to strong winds, the design incorporated features to create a “protected area.” Permeable glass was used to mitigate the impact of prevailing wind directions, enhancing user comfort while maintaining an open and inviting atmosphere.

Overall, the Waiting Lounge was conceived to provide a secure and familiar space that facilitates interaction and aligns with the site’s climatic conditions and urban context. The design integrates these considerations to offer a welcoming and functional environment for all users, reflecting the unique characteristics and needs of the location.

Aşiyan Füniküler İstasyonu Çevresi Düzenleme Projesi kapsamında öngörülen Bekleme Alanı, Rumeli Hisarüstü-Aşiyan Füniküler bağlantısı ile vapur seferlerinin gerçekleştiği önemli bir ulaşım noktasında yer almaktadır. Bu nokta, ulaşım ağında kritik bir rol oynadığından, Bekleme Salonu'nun tasarımı bu yoğun kavşakta kullanıcı deneyimini artırmak açısından büyük önem taşımaktadır.

Bekleme Salonu'nun tasarım süreci, benzer mekanların kültürel ve sosyolojik analizleriyle başlatılmıştır. Bu araştırmalar sonucunda tasarım, üç temel ilkeye dayalı olarak geliştirilmiştir: geçirgenlik, taşıyıcılık ve kent belleği.

Geçirgenlik ilkesi tasarımda temel bir unsur olarak belirlenmiştir. Bu ilke, mimari yaklaşımın çevre ile olan bağlantıyı desteklemesini ve engellememesini sağlamaya yönelik bir tasarım anlayışını ifade eder. Şeffaf malzemelerin ve açık bir tasarımın kullanılması, denizle olan görsel ve fiziksel bağlantıları koruyarak kullanıcı deneyimini artırmaktadır.

Taşıyıcılık ise bir diğer önemli odak noktası olmuştur. Oturma birimleri, aynı zamanda çatıyı destekleyen yapısal elemanlar olarak tasarlanmıştır. Bu çok işlevli tasarım, mekanın estetik değerine katkıda bulunurken, aynı zamanda kentsel bir öğe olarak davetkarlığını artırmayı hedeflemektedir.

Kent belleği de tasarımın şekillenmesinde önemli bir rol oynamıştır. Geleneksel taş kahveler, sosyal ve etkileşimli ortamlarıyla incelenmiş ve bu analizler, sosyal etkileşimi teşvik eden ve tanıdık, güvenli bir ortam sağlayan bir mekan yaratma amacıyla tasarım sürecine dahil edilmiştir. Sosyolojik ritüeller ve sosyal modeller, bu tasarımı bilgilendirici bir çerçeve sunmuştur.

Proje alanının yoğun rüzarlara maruz kalması nedeniyle, “korunaklı alan” oluşturulmuş ve hakim rüzgar yönlerine karşı geçirgen camlar kullanılmıştır. Bu tasarım özelliği, kullanıcı konforunu artırmak için rüzgar etkilerini azaltmayı hedeflemektedir.

Sonuç olarak, Bekleme Salonu, güvenli ve tanıdık bir alan sağlayarak etkileşimi teşvik eden bir mekan olarak düşünülmüştür. Tasarım, mekanın iklim koşulları ve kentsel bağlamı ile uyumlu bir şekilde, kullanıcılar için davetkar ve işlevsel bir ortam sunmayı amaçlamaktadır.
