Beverly Drive

Beverly Drive in Highland Park, Texas is a wide street in the heart of town filled with some of the loveliest houses like in a movie.

Growing up in the Park Cities in Dallas, I thought Beverly Drive was the ultimate street. It is located in the heart of Highland Park with each house more beautiful than the next. It was my dream to live there.

A multi-tasking house simultaneously celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas.

On a recent trip back to Dallas, I enjoyed driving down it again to see the lovely houses. Fortunately, many of the old beauties are still there.

There are some enormous new houses, such as above, that reflect current tastes.

Classic architecture stands the test of time.

My favorites are the ones that were there when I grew up. They were stately and timeless. In my mind, they are perfect the way they are and don’t need a new look. A girl I went to high school with lived in this beautiful red brick colonial seen above.

Many houses in the Park Cities have porte-cochères. Still today I favor a house with that feature. It reminds me of grace and simpler times despite the face that these are not simple homes.

After Spanish revival, Tudor might be my second favorite style. They are often considered to be dark, but I love their heavy wooden beams, leaded glass windows, brick, slate, and the cozy interiors.

This large house was home to a family of four children who went to the same elementary school as my family. Carpooling was easy, dropping them off under their porte-cochère, not pictured.

This grande dame is getting an extensive makeover.

driving by her favorite house, I might select one of the two Spanish revivals above for my dream house. Unlike Andie, Ringwald’s character, I don’t have an archenemy living in either one.
