Highway Sandwich

The project looks to restore the existing site condition along the Miami River, which also has a highway and a metro rail running through the site, however, at street level, there isn't a direct route to the river, blocking off any form of pedestrian activity. The project, a mutli-level park system, seeks to diminish the infrastructural presence while at the same time promoting pedestrian activity by creating an elevated park which uses the existing metro rail infrastructure as structure. The Miami River will be channeled underground into the street level park and splinter within the area providing easy access to its visitors.

The vision is to create a softer landscape by integrating parks with existing modes of transportation that serve individuals conducting business, or families enjoying the Florida sunshine. The park will be an addition to the existing layered condition of the transportation system. In the long term, the upper level park would expand to connect more stations and become an urban network of park systems.
