Our inspiration for this project came from the novel portraying the same name: Shangri-La, a mystical, harmonious valley synonymous with an earthly paradise that evokes imagery of the exoticism of the Orient.

The Haihe River runs alongside the property, offering magnificent views through the floor-to-ceiling windows found in the lobby lounge. This zen element was the core which played a fundamental part in our creative process. The grand lobby chandelier is designed to mimic sunlight reflecting on water, while the flow of the river is mirrored in the carpet motif of water lilies on a blue waterway. The intention is to make every guest feel like they are floating as soon as they step in, reflecting back to the idea of heaven.

The spa reception speaks the same language as the rest of the hotel. Fallen tree leaves guided guests to their respective changing rooms on the way for a swim or treatment. Meanwhile subtle yet relaxing looking nature inspired screens provide privacy while waiting at the spa reception.

Other finishes include wallcovering with a moire effect that moves and mirrors water reflection as well as Golden Onyx marble for the same latter reason.

Mother of Pearl adds luxurious detailing and is complemented by handmade embroidered Fromental Prunus wallcoverings that resonate their antique Chinese craftsmanship.

The lobby lounge is separated from the main lobby by dividers inlaid with gold flowers cascading from the trees to wind-blown flowers falling into the river. White hand carved Chinese marble tiles by artist Robert Kuo from Ann Sacks were proposed in the lift lobby as an accent feature.
