Sigtuna Stadshotell, 2000
Built in 1909, Sigtunastads Hotell was the town's main hotel until the 1960s. Built from wood, its architecture is typical of the local vernacular of wooden homes dating back to the 18th century. In 2010, the hotel reopened. The intention was to create an interior that reflected the era when the hotel was built, while imagining how it would look in the present day, had it remained open throughout the century.
The upper floors, which sat unused for a number of decades, follow the original plan, but the basement and ground floor required an overhaul. The colourscheme reflects how the hotel may have originally looked. Simple furniture in oak, traditional midcentury Swedish linens and hand-woven carpets, all inspired by traditional decorative arts and Shaker style, were combined with unique pieces designed by Lindvall A & D and vintage furniture from Arne Jacobsen, Hans Wegner and Calm Malmsten.
