Phoenix Convention Center
The design of the Phoenix Convention Center landscape celebrates urban Sonoran Desert life. Entry plazas and streetscapes create a welcoming pedestrian environment both on site and along adjacent streets to form a civic network between the convention center and Symphony Hall, Arizona State University, Orpheum Theater, and nearby hotels. Interconnected promenades and plazas are unified by the dappled shade of Palo Brea and mesquite trees, and also integrate water harvesting technologies and showcase ornamental native plantings that provide year-round color and seasonal interest. TELA’s living wall, ‘Habitat’, complements seating and shade structures throughout the project designed to provide physical and psychological cooling. All paths lead to a high-rising palm grove that distinguishes Phoenix Civic Plaza, the primary entry off Washington Street and nexus of outdoor activity for convention center events.
