FRANCESC ALDEA SCHOOL

Located in Terrassa, a textile town near Barcelona, surrounded by a beautiful landscape which is currently an homogeneous context: motorways, an hypermarket, a block zone and an urbanization of marginal housing. The school needed a strong and unitary image that distinguished it from the expressive chaos that surrounds it. Thus, it is projected to resemble the old industrial buildings or agricultural buildings of the beginning of the century, easily identifiable and with a specific importance of its own. The school is situated parallel to the access; the slope of the terrain allows an offset between the two bodies of the building, a difference in level that is used to give greater height to the auditorium, emphasizing the symbolic character of this space.

ESCUELA FRANCESC ALDEA

Situada en Terrassa, población textil cercana a Barcelona, en lo que había sido un hermoso paisaje y que en la actualidad es un punto de encuentro de imágenes diversas como una autopista, un hipermercado, una zona de bloques y una urbanización de viviendas marginales, la escuela precisaba de una imagen contundente y unitaria que la distinguiera del caos expresivo que la envuelve. Así pues, se proyecta a semejanza de las antiguas naves industriales o construcciones agrícolas de comienzos de siglo, fácilmente identificable y con un peso específico propio. La escuela se sitúa paralela al acceso; la pendiente del terreno permite un decalaje entre los dos cuerpos del edificio, desnivel que se aprovecha para dar mayor altura a la sala de actos, enfatizando el carácter simbólico de este espacio.
