The Mere Resort

Set in the heart of Cheshire, The Mere Resort is a premier luxury destination boasting a championship golf course, spa, hotel, and fine dining. In 2025, The Mere Resort undertook a significant investment into the long-term health and sustainability of its golf course by commissioning a comprehensive irrigation system upgrade. Ocmis were proud to be selected as the contractor for this high-profile project, which ran from April to July 2025.

The project began as a competitive tender process, with Ocmis ultimately being awarded the contract thanks to its technical expertise, reputation for excellence, and comprehensive approach to the installation. The irrigation system was designed by Adrian Mortram Associates (AMA), and Ocmis collaborated closely with both AMA and John Quinn, the Golf Course Manager at The Mere, from the earliest stages of the tender process. This included an in-depth site visit to ensure every detail was understood and incorporated into the final proposal.

The scope of the installation included complete irrigation coverage to the Greens, Surrounds, Approaches, Tees, and selected Fairways. Futureproofing was a key element of the project; the pump set and mainline pipework were designed to accommodate a potential full fairway irrigation system in the future, ensuring long-term value and scalability.

A new GRP enclosure was constructed on-site, alongside a newly installed 634m³ nett capacity lined water storage tank. The system utilised Rain Bird’s state-of-the-art Cirrus Pro software with Integrated Control (IC) Technology—ensuring precise, efficient, and reliable irrigation management across the golf course.

A critical element of the installation was the bespoke pump set, manufactured by Ocmis’s experienced welder at our Somerset-based workshop. The pump set, engineered to deliver 95m³/hr at 8.7 Bar, was complemented by bespoke irrigation control panels designed and built by Ocmis’s experienced electrical department. These in-house capabilities outline Ocmis’s approach and high standards of craftsmanship.

Throughout the project, Ocmis maintained constant communication with John Quinn and the wider team at The Mere Resort. Clear, regular updates ensured that timelines were met and that all aspects of the client’s vision and requirements were achieved. Ocmis also provided on-site guidance and support to the greenkeeping team, helping them become familiar with their new system and ensuring a smooth transition to day-to-day use.
