BOSTON HOUSING DEVELOPMENT

The proposed project for South Boston combines housing - both affordable and market rate - with commercial development, restaurants, and a new enclosure for the Broadway T-Station. Strategies of urban and garden rooms - define leasable space at the street level while maximizing open space. The project has combined goals of environmental design (LEED Platinum) and increasing life at the street. The north-south site orientation of the upper level housing block is mediated to provide maximum day-lighting and natural ventilation into units while limiting thermal gain in the summer month. The project uses geothermal for cooling and heating, rainwater collection, green roofs, and photovoltaic for energy use.
