5 Martin Place
Location Sydney, Gadigal Country, Australia
Status Completed
Client CBus Property/Dexus
Type Commercial, Heritage & Adaptive Reuse, Urban Design & Master Planning
JPW were invited by the owners of 5 Martin Place to develop a proposal for the adaptive reuse of one of Australia’s most significant and iconic heritage buildings.
The concept set the framework for innovative solutions with large, cantilevered steel tower structure, integrated chilled beams, double skin facades, reuse of original trachyte, conservation of Joseph Albers “Wrestling” and heritage interpretation.
Perceived heritage constraints have been turned into commercial opportunities, with contemporary workplaces of large naturally lit floor plates and smaller tower floors both attracting premium tenants and rentals.
“The work that has been done here at 5 Martin Place embodies the high standards of public and private amenity we look for in Sydney and I hope will inspire similar qualities in other new developments or redevelopments in the area.”
Clover Moore
Lord Mayor of Sydney
“This significant heritage restoration project has delivered one of the most inspired and innovative commercial workspaces in Australia.”
Ken Morrison
Chief Executive, Property Council of Australia
5 Martin Place was recognised for innovation and excellence with major national awards across the building and development industry as well as architecture.
