The Tetreault-Pirman Residence . Sarasota, Florida.

This 2000 SF house captures the spirit of the Sarasota School of Design. Some of the earmarks of the Sarasota School period embraced in this house design are a strong relationship to the outdoor environment, visual extension, an economy of means, an honest use of simple materials, an exposed modular structure, and an articulate geometry.

The design intertwines interior and exterior space maximizing openness to the exterior. In addition to many walls of glass, ceilings in all main spaces are lifted above clerestories and roof overhangs are minimized to maximize the views of sky and distant vegetation and the feeling of openness.

Flood regulations required this house to be elevated five feet above the surrounding housing. To respect the scale of the neighborhood the ground level garage and gate house are on the street façade with travel up to floor level through the terraced entry garden.

With the terraced entry garden, entry court, pool area, expansive views of sky and distant vegetation and smaller views into screening vegetation from bathroom vanities and showers, one always feels the presence of the exterior environment.
