Karuizawa Commongrounds bookstore, designed as a facility for local residents, comprises a handful of stores, eateries and a pre-school, enclosed by lush woodland and majestic distant mountainous views. Inspired by the area’s past and embracing its growing community, the complex’s bookstore is a unique renovation and transformation of what was once a seminar house’s summer-school dormitory for Tokyo’s Aoyama Gakuin University.
