Shop in Brixton

HustleBucks is a social enterprise run by young people; designing, printing and selling T-shirts and other products from a shop in Brixton Village.

As part of Brixton Design Week, we collaborated on a series of children's workshops. Standard market frames and components were ‘remixed’ by adapting the orientation and adding new elements, to create a space for the workshop to take place. Photographs of the market were used as the starting point for children to make their own T-shirts using offcuts from the printing process.

After this, the project for a new shop fit-out was progressed through a collaborative process which aimed to provide the participants with the tools and support to make their own decisions. A series of workshops were used to develop the brief and design for a new fit-out, with a combination of individual research, group work, and presentations. The preliminary workshops were held at the

Factory

Arts and Enterprise hub in March 2015 and the project was supported by the Walcot Foundation.

Staff and apprentices developed a proposal to enhance the shop and showcase the products and the mission of the business, using a raw pegboard lining and mobile furniture elements which could be easily transformed and dressed for events.

The fit-out was managed by the young people themselves, with support from professionals where necessary.
