The landscape for this penthouse apartment in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City is divided into four quadrants anchoring each corner of the residence. The gardens each sample three distinctively different micro ecologies found in the Mid-Atlantic region – Coastal Forest, Dunes, and Pine Barrens - while responding to their respective environmental conditions and views towards the Hudson River and Manhattan skyline. The southwest terrace has a trellis and forest floor plantings that create an intricate shade pattern that changes throughout the day and year. The Northwest terrace creates a landscape that samples a dune ecosystem that is dominated by native grasses while the northwest terrace is populated with Pitch pines and acid loving groundcovers.
