SMART SWMS is a handy B2B solution for tradies, builders and construction companies in Australia. Designed to simplify and take the hassle out of risk assessment management (aka SWMS - Safe work method statements), SMART SWMS app lives on your phone and is your go-to when it comes to risk assessments and safety. By doing it right the first time, the solution minimises and avoids injury or at worst, death. Simply log in, create a site-specific project, tap in the details and voila - your risk assessment is sorted in under 5 minutes. Under the hood, it’s AI automates the manual process and always staying up to date with the current legislation and regulations in each state.

Approach

BrandWorks was engaged to provide the overall brand position, identity direction, copywriting and tone of voice and UX interface for the new app. The brand and copy is relatable, tongue-in-cheek and suited for today’s tradie. Busy, time-poor and who loves a little work-life balance to break up the working week, the direction is “feel good smart tech” for owners and operators of small to mid-sized businesses The photography direction and use of colours all point SMART SWMS as your trusted companion, ready to assist and get some quality time back to you.

Challenges

One of the main challenges was to take something that was task driven and see as “paperwork” and turn it into a joy to do. A critical requirement during the building phase of a construction project, the SMART SWMS brand identity and app’s UX design needed to be intuitive, simple to use and reliable. Typically, using risk assessments are done using downloadable templates from the internet or paying a consultant to do it for you. Time-consuming, inaccurate and costly, SMART SWMS was the solution that solved these pain points. Best of all, all the data is stored securely in the cloud, for other team members to access and refer to at any time. A cost-effective solution that saved time and money. This required the brand to convey this ease of use but in a fun and engaging way that tradies could relate to.

Result

Soon-to-be release to the public, SMART SWMS takes the time, cost and inaccuracy out of risk assessments for small to mid-sized owners and operators in the building and construction industry. Using smart app technology, AI and cloud-based solutions, it’s chief aim is to solve the pain of completing risk assessments and safety in the workplace in a reliable and cost-effective way.
