Griffith Heritage

This new build house is in the Blandfordia 5 Heritage precinct in South Canberra. The brief was to design a new family house that belonged in this heritage street as well as create a truly contemporary dwelling connected to the garden and designed to be comfortable and energy efficient in all seasons.

The house has a strong street presence. The proportions of the heritage streetscape were studied and tweaked to allow for large windows and high ceilings which deliver light-filled, airy rooms. The front door opens into a modern floor plan with generous open plan spaces arranged around a large private landscaped courtyard with entertaining areas and a pool. The north facing courtyard design allows the living areas to open straight into the sunny garden.

The design employs passive solar principles and natural cross ventilation to ensure the house is fantastic to live in all year round.
