Governors House in Bhutan

Government of Bhutan has committed to preserve 2/3rd of the forest. They want to move away from timber structures which has defined the architecture of the region. Government of Bhutan approached INBAR for the construction of a model bamboo house, that would act as a prototype for further construction. In collaboration with ABARI, we developed a unique construction technique that merge traditional timber structure with bamboo. Many earthquake resistant bands were integrated into the construction. The walls were plastered using wattle and daub technique finished with lime wash.
