EDGARTOWN COMMERCIAL HIGHWAY DISTRICT PLAN

The historic port of Edgartown, located on Martha’s Vineyard island, Massachusetts, was experiencing the beginnings of strip commercial development along the main highway into town. Dodson & Flinker Inc. worked with the planning board and business community to develop a plan for redesigning future growth in the district in order to reduce traffic congestion and respect the traditional visual and environmental character of the town. Working with a land-use lawyer, Dodson & Flinker Inc. helped translate the physical planning and design recommendations into a revised zoning by-law and site plan review standards which were overwhelmingly adopted by the voters at town meeting. The plan is currently being successfully implemented by the planning board.
