Parametrically Designed Feature Wall

This project created a parametrically designed feature wall that expressed the sound-waves of the WSU cannon shot, and displayed it in a way that represented the technology and innovation that takes place within the new building

The sound waves of the cannon shot were extracted using Grasshopper, then the design was parametrically generated, using the soundwaves as a driver.

Sound analysis tools within Grasshopper deconstructed the Wave form of the sound, these waves were then used to drive the formation of the pattern, perforations populated the waves within grasshopper, and were parametrically trimmed to avoid overlaps and to resolve edge conditions on the panels.

Cut files were then exported from Grasshopper into Rhino then sent to a CNC mill to cut out the finished panels.
