Liberty Place Veteran Housing

Knoxville's Community Development Corporation

and the Department of Veterans Affairs, designed Liberty Place, a thoughtfully planned 32-unit apartment building providing permanent supportive housing for military veterans. Located near the VA Outpatient Clinic and McNabb Center for Military Services, Liberty Place is designed to foster community and well-being. The design includes a generous 10-foot-wide patio space that reduces the amount of conditioned indoor area while enhancing resident interaction.

A welcoming and supportive environment is further encouraged through shared amenities, including a community lounge, an exercise room, and a dedicated meeting space.

Outdoor spaces are integral to the design, with a picnic pavilion and flagpole plaza serving as focal points for gathering and reflection. Permeable paving in parking areas helps with stormwater management.

Universal accessibility was a key consideration, with all units designed for easy conversion to fully accessible accommodations, and select units built with accessibility features from the outset.

Each residence includes a private laundry room to support independent living. Energy efficiency was central to the project’s vision. In partnership with Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Liberty Place features a rooftop photovoltaic array that helps reduce energy consumption and operational costs. Through a thoughtful blend of design, functionality, and community focus, Liberty Place reflects a commitment to affordable and veteran-focused housing.
