The concept of the university campus courtyard area

Timings: August 2023 — February 2024 Position: designer. The project was completed in collaboration with the HSE DESIGN LAB.

Responsibilities: working on the master plan of the territory, selection of factory-made small architectural forms, creation of custom-made small architectural forms, partial creation of graphic materials.

The project is aimed at developing a comfortable environment at the yard of a university campus. The proposed site has a number of specific features that directly influence the formation of the project’s technical brief. It was essential to ensure that the territory would be accessible not only to students but also to local residents as a pedestrian transit area. That is why the design concept envisions the integration of the site with its urban surroundings through a well-developed network of pedestrian connections. Vehicular access within the site is limited to fire lanes. Car parking is planned to be accommodated on the adjacent plot, currently used as an informal parking area.

The master plan also envisions the creation of multifunctional spaces for student recreation and work — including an open-air stage with an amphitheater, co-working areas, quiet and active recreation zones, and facilities for outdoor sports and fitness.

Event area

One of the parts of the courtyard is designed as an event area, where an outdoor stage and tiered seating area are arranged to accommodate various events and performances for students and enrolees. The design also includes a variety of co-working spots.

Active recreation area

Another side of a yard accommodates a variety of sports activity zones, each equipped with the necessary recreational and training facilities. The site also features playgrounds and quiet recreation areas.
