A Guest Room

猫屋是一间独立的客房，它藏在一片树林中，面向不远处的水面和远山探出它的“脑袋”，它的“尾巴”是一段滑梯，小朋友进入房间打开一扇“柜”门，这里便是滑梯的入口。

Cat House is a standalone guest room tucked away in a grove, stretching its “head” toward the water and distant mountains, with a slide forming its “tail.” Children can enter through a “cabinet” door inside to find the slide entrance.

面向风景的姿态

Facing the View

场地在一片露营地中，甲方想要对略旧的部分帐篷进行提升，尝试一种更耐久更有趣的居住模式，帐篷因为私密性而缺少由内而外的视野，所以我们希望设计一款可以不设围墙但有私密性同时有风景的客房。所以它需要转向视野最好的方向、抬高至一定的高度避开外部的视线，它开始像某种生物，像一只根据环境变换自己姿态的猫。

The site sits within a campground. The client wanted to upgrade some aging tents, exploring a more durable and engaging form of lodging. Tents, often enclosed for privacy, tend to block views outward, so, we aimed to design a guest room that could feel private without solid walls while framing the landscape. It needed to turn toward the best views and rise high enough to shield itself from outside sightlines. Slowly, it began to resemble a creature—like a cat adjusting its posture to its environment.

房间

Room

外部姿态的调整，在内部自然形成了三个小高差，自然划分出了三个区域：入口、卧室起居、景观浴室。入口处连接着滑梯，包含了洗漱、卫生间等功能；卧室起居在中段，是最有私密性最有围合感的区域；景观浴室在最高处，是小朋友戏水看景的区域。

Shaping the exterior created three subtle level changes inside, naturally dividing the space into zones: the entry, the bedroom-living area, and the view bathroom. The entry connects to the slide and houses functional spaces like the washroom and toilet. The middle section holds the bedroom and living area—the most private, cocoon-like zone. At the highest point is the view bathroom, a playful wet area where children can enjoy water and scenery.

猫

Cat

猫可能是一种最能融于自然的哺乳动物。很多年前，我们养过一只叫北北的微胖白猫，她脾气很差，但在穿越放满各种物件的桌子时，总能毫不减速地变化自己的姿态，优雅而无声地保持物件的完整性，养她的三四年时间里，她没有打破过一个杯子，没有弄掉过一个手机、相机甚至鼠标。她总是通过快速调整自己柔软的身体去适应多变的环境。这是我们从猫身上学到的与自然共处的方法。

Cats may be the mammals most seamlessly woven into nature. Years ago, we had a slightly plump white cat named Beibei. She was temperamental, yet she could dash across tables cluttered with objects without slowing down, shifting her form with a quiet elegance that left everything intact. In the three or four years she lived with us, she never broke a cup, never knocked over a phone, camera, or even a mouse. She constantly adapted her fluid body to fit an everchanging setting. That is what we learned from cats about living with nature.

黑猫-花猫

Black Cat – Spotted Cat

场地安吉产竹子，我们自然想到用竹瓦来覆盖猫屋，新竹瓦造价不低，所以我们想用废旧竹瓦回收建造，一开始我们看到一批工厂剩余的深碳竹材，呈现竹子碳化后的深灰色，想象如果整个房子都用这批竹子来覆盖，猫屋便会是一间黑猫屋，但后来剩余的深碳竹材数量不够，我们随机应变，参杂了不同颜色的剩余竹瓦，因此黑猫变成了花猫，虽然没那么酷了但可能会更受小朋友的喜爱。

Anji, where the site is located, produces bamboo, so covering Cat House with bamboo tiles felt natural. New bamboo tiles are costly, so we chose to reuse discarded ones. At first, we found a batch of factory leftovers—deepcarbonized bamboo in a dark charcoal gray. We imagined sheathing the whole house in it, turning Cat House into a Black Cat House. But there wasn’t enough of the dark material. We adapted, mixing in leftover tiles of different colors. So the black cat became a spotted cat—perhaps less sleek, but probably more fun for children.

运猫

Moving the Cat

在设计猫屋之前，我们来过场地多次，对场地已足够熟悉，所以设计的过程比较顺利，第一稿甲方就很认可，并且和我们讨论出了在尾巴处设滑梯的巧妙想法。而要在低造价的情况下实现它，过程比我们、甲方和建造方想象的都要难很多，考虑到可以方便利用工厂丰富而多样的剩余竹材，我们把猫屋分成三段先在竹材厂家制作到80%，然后装车从杭州运往安吉拼装，“猫”经历了漫长的旅程来到了属于它的山林。

We had visited the site many times before designing Cat House, so we knew it well. The design process went smoothly; the client approved the first draft, and together we came up with the clever idea of adding a slide in the “tail.” Making it happen on a tight budget, though, turned out much harder than any of us—client, designers, or builders—had expected. To make the most of the factory’s varied bamboo leftovers, we split Cat House into three segments, prefabricating about 80% offsite before loading it onto trucks for the journey from Hangzhou to Anji, where it was assembled. The cat had traveled a long way to settle into its forest home.

每个项目对我们来说，都是一段旅程，总是曲折而精彩，它带我们去见新的地方，认识新的朋友。如今猫屋已落地，甲方叫它“喵屋”，更生动、更年轻，希望未来的每一位住客，尤其是小朋友们，都能在这里获得美好而独特的体验。

To us, every project—no matter how small—is a journey. It always winds and surprises, taking us to new places and introducing us to new friends. Now that Cat House is complete, the client calls it “Meow House”—livelier, more youthful. We hope every future guest, especially the children, will find a beautiful and unique experience here.
